Maenuhama's Suuki is a large tree nearly 10 meters tall. The velvet soldierbush, referred to in the Okinawandialect as a "suuki", is usually only 2 to 5 meters tall. Maenuhama's Suuki has the distinction of being thetallest such tree in Okinawa. The tree's lumber is very soft and was once used tomake diving masks and as an ingredient for variouspoison remedies. Maenuhama's Suuki has been declared a natural monument of Nanjo City.
