The Chinen Castle ruins in the Chinen district. This is said to have been the castle of the powerful castellan, Chinen, who appears in "OMOROSAUSHI," a compilation of ancient poems from Okinawa. The Chinen Castle ruins consist of two castles; an older castle made from natural rock, and a newer two-level castle made from ashlar masonary. In 1972, Chinen Castle was designated as a national historical site.
