The Maekawa Civilian Bomb Shelters in Maekawa, in the Tamagusuku district. The people of Maekawa took refuge in these bomb shelters during the Battle of Okinawa. There were incidents of mass suicide occuring here during the battle. Cool, clear water bubbles forth from Maekawa Hiijaa which lies in close proximity to the bomb shelters. The lush vegetation covering the area let's one feel its long history.
